This webinar, hosted by Tourism Australia, will outline the opportunities for destinations and businesses to improve the quality of the visitor experience for disabled people: 

  • Simon Darcy opened with an outline of the market and the importance of the destination marketing organisations and the role they play;
  • Bill Forrester spoke about marketing and the message and information that businesses need to be provide;
  • Chris Veitch spoke briefly about a pilot experience led by destination marketing organisations in the UK;
  • And Jane Kelly spoke from a business perspective as someone who has gone through all the processes.

Simon Darcy
Professor of Events, Sport and Tourism, UTS Business School

Simon Darcy specialises in developing inclusive organisational approaches for diversity groups. His expertise has been used by the UNWTO, International Paralympic Committee and state tourism organisations to assist in developing accessible destination management for areas as diverse as Cairns, Catalonia and Rio de Janeiro. Simon’s research and industry collaboration on accessible tourism has been recognised for its outstanding contribution to the field through the World Leisure Organisation's Innovation Prize, the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s publication on best practice and the Asociación Española de Expertos Científicos en Turismo best tourism research paper published in 2015.

Bill Forrester

Bill is an acknowledged world leader in Accessible Tourism, Universal Design and Social Inclusion and the economic impact the retiring Baby Boomers will have on the tourism sector.

He is a business focussed professional who has a fundamental belief in sound economic management, and understands the competitive advantage to be had from effective environmental sustainability and social inclusion.

Chris Veitch
Accessible Tourism Consultant

Chris Veitch is an independent consultant with wide experience in the field of accessible tourism. After gaining a First Class degree in Tourism Management, he was a policy executive in the English Tourism Council (ETC) managing projects to improve the accessibility of tourism in England. In 2003 he set up his own practice.

Jane Kelly
Marketing and Business Development Manager, Sandcastle Waterpark

Jane currently oversees all aspects of Marketing and PR at Sandcastle Waterpark in the UK. She is involved in all aspects of business development from securing the UKs national Gold Award for Accessibility to the introduction of Cashless wristbands and other development technology.
